Macau

Macau is one of the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China, the other being Hong Kong. The territory has thriving industries such as its continuously expanding tourist industry that boasts an excellent selection of hotels, resorts, stadiums, restaurants and casinos. Under the policy of "one country, two systems", the Central People's Government is responsible for the territory's defence and foreign affairs, while the governing body of Macau operates and controls its own legal system, police force, currency, customs and immigration.

Casinos in Macau are as diverse as the region itself. Whether you are looking for a stylish high class gaming experience or a more family style establishment, you will find a wide selection to choose from. There are even a number of themed casinos like The Macao Venetian, which is currently the world's largest casino. Some casinos are designed to attract the tourists that travel from around the world and some are designed specifically for the Asian market like the Grand Lisboa, but all are world class. And if that's not enough variety for you, then the new Cotai Strip, opening in 2010 will really take your breath away. Set to be the Las Vegas strip of the east, this multi billion dollar development will set a whole new standard in gaming resort destinations. It's no wonder that the gaming revenue in Macau has already surpassed that of Las Vegas to become the highest in the world.

Macau offers world-class gaming establishments similar to those found in America or Europe, but the differences are apparent from the first glance. Casino floors are spacious here with more room between each gaming table, unlike the sometimes cluttered and cramped casino floors of the west. You will also find a number of games unknown to the western casinos, most of these games are of ancient Asian origins that seem to be very popular amongst the locals. Poker rooms however have only started to appear here recently after the huge success of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, which introduced poker to Macau in 2007.
